We are Hibiscus Coast Presbyterian Church
Hibiscus Coast Presbyterian Church (HBCPC) has old roots and a young heart. Our story began in Wainui, where settlers built a timber church in 1862, a hub for baptisms, weddings, and community life—one of the Coast’s earliest public buildings. As the Hibiscus Coast grew—gum-diggers, millers, then holiday-makers—our Presbyterian witness moved east to Orewa and Whangaparāoa. St Andrew’s Orewa became our hub, with sister congregations in Stanmore Bay and Wainui, where we still steward the historic Settlers Church as a living taonga.
By the 1960s, the “Hibiscus Coast” name took hold as Orewa boomed. HBCPC matured, centering at St Andrew’s (107 Centreway Rd, Orewa) while maintaining ties to Wainui and Whangaparāoa. Rooted in the Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa New Zealand (PCANZ), we draw from Auckland’s Presbyterian legacy but serve the Coast with our unique voice.
HBCPC is a people—across bays, farms, and suburbs—praying, discipling, and welcoming all. As we approach our 75th anniversary in 2026, we’re excited to celebrate our calling: love Christ, love our neighbors, and welcome the next person through the door.
